“It
is good to renew one’s wonder”, said the
philosopher. “Space travel has again made children
of us all.”
~Ray Bradbury The
allure of space and space travel has long provided
a romantic and compelling perspective from which to
create, to write, to express oneself.
SpaceArc™
invites people from the world over to participate
in the creation of a comprehensive archive of personal
expressions including poetry, drawings, essays, written
music and photography.
SpaceArc™
draws on mankind’s ancient desire to communicate
to the future, much as early man did through cave
paintings. Communication to the future is an act of
hope and optimism, a belief in tomorrow.
Participation
in SpaceArc™ is a thoughtful and introspective
process through which ideas and values are identified
and expressed as much for the author as for a potential
future audience. The SpaceArc™ archive is in
essence a collection of personal pages of history.
SpaceArc™
participants include students, families, children
and adults, and special interest groups from the world
over.
In
August of 1994 SpaceArc™ launched the world’s
first archive of creative expressions into space.
This archive, in geostationary orbit 22,500 miles
above the Earth’s equator, contains the personal
expressions of more than 47,000 people from around
the world, representing 52 countries.
In
celebration of the 10th anniversary of this remarkable
international, multigenerational book of humanity,
a second archive, Voice of a Planet, will be compiled
and launched into space to remain a testament to creative
expression.
A
duplicate archive will remain on Earth, accessible
via the SpaceArc™ website as an electronic resource
for cultural sharing and introspection.
